Parks & Recreation
CURVE has contacted the County Recreation Department and begun the process to have our area included in the County Master Plan.  The process will include an initial community recreation and parks needs assessment and then progress into proposals for acceptance. Duke Power Co. has agreed to enhance the water access/takeout area above the dam and construct a put-in area below the dam.  Several community river enthusiasts are interested in a paddling gate course just below the dam and are talking with the committee.

Marketing
Marketing efforts for CuRvE have included distribution of press releases about the organization's first open house, which were published in local newspapers including The Sylva Herald and the Smoky Mountain News. The Reporter, the university's newsletter for faculty and staff, also published a story in January about the organization working through service learning at Western Carolina University to encourage additional participation. A letter and needs assessment card is being prepared to distribute and mail to business and property ownes in Cullowhee along Old Cullowhee Road. The Web site is still in progress.

Town Planning
CuRvE has made connections with Erin Tapley, a faculty member in Fine and Performing Arts who has expertise in large scale murals.  This type of art would add beauty and create unique focal points in Downtown Cullowhee.  If any business or property owners are interested in this, they should contact Jane Nichols.
A local landscape designer has offered to put together a landscape plan for the plot of land in front of the Music Village.
Old Cullowhee Road has been officially adopted by CuRvE for litter pickup.  A sign-up schedule is available so that interested groups of citizens can reserve a month for litter pickup along that road.
A local resident is assisting CuRvE in designing a sign for the entrance of Cullowhee.  The Cullowhee Rotary Club is interested in helping to sponsor the sign construction.

Needs Assessment
Letters and need assessment cards are being sent out to Old Cullowhee residents and businesses.  Anyone needing any assistance is requested to either mail a printed card or drop one off at one of four locations, Suds Your Duds Laundromat, The China Dragon Restaurant, The Cullowhee Café or Cullowhee Real Estate.  Drop boxes are being made by Daryl Hale.
